Applying IoT to more efficiently collect and manage data on indoor conditions
in shopping centers

At large shopping centers, it is essential to adjust air conditioners and related equipment in order to keep the indoor environment comfortable, based on temperature, humidity, and CO2 concentration data. Generally, such data has been collected by having staff walk around in the shopping center and take measurements. AEON Delight, however, is overturning this conventional facility management by making use of the Internet of Things (IoT). In various places in shopping malls, we install sensors that automatically measure indoor conditions and send the data to cloud storage. That allows us to substantially reduce the number of people and hours that were previously needed to do those tasks, while also enabling the data to be managed all together.

Designed for making facilities cleaner and more comfortable, our open facility management model can be adopted anywhere in the world

To create an all-new facility management model, AEON Delight recognized from the beginning that breaking down conventional thinking was crucial. With that in mind, the leader of the development team, Takeshi Ishii, decided to use sensors that could self-charge via solar or thermoelectric power, and to adopt open communications standards, which are not dependent on national or manufacturer’s specifications.

Moving beyond facility management,
AEON Delight is looking to help solve
environmental problems

By applying our IoT facility management model more broadly, we are aspiring to help conserve energy, control fluorocarbons—a major contributor to global warming—and take advantage of recycled energy in the future. With that goal, AEON Delight intends to move beyond facility management and help people solve the most urgent environmental problems now directly confronting our planet.
